Thai Vietjet seeks resumption of Bangkok-Hue service

Thai Vietjet, a subsidiary of Vietnamese carrier Vietjet Air, wants to resume direct flights between Bangkok and Hue and has held discussions for the purpose with Thua Thien-Hue Province authorities.

The airline stopped flying between the Thai capital and the popular Vietnamese tourist town famous for its royal tombs and ancient temples when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in early 2020.

Hue has been a favorite destination for Thai tourists, and 46,000 visited it in 2020 despite the pandemic.

Vietnam fully reopened its borders last Tuesday after nearly two years of closure, and resumed visa waivers for citizens from 24 countries, including ASEAN and some EU members, Japan and South Korea.

Thailand was Vietnam’s fastest growing tourist market before the pandemic, with the number of visitors from the country rising by 46 percent in 2019 to 509,000.
