HÀ NỘI — The Korean Taekwondo Ambassador Cup will lure a large number of athletes to compete from March 5-12 in Quảng Nam Province.

The organisers said more than 1,000 fighters and coaches from 56 clubs will take part in the event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the relationship between Việt Nam and South Korea (1992-2022), at a press briefing on Wednesday.

They will vie for medals in three age groups: 12-14, 15-17 and over 17.

Athletes must have at least two COVID-19 vaccine shots or have recovered from the disease within six months. They must take rapid tests before arriving and leaving the host province.

“The competition is an opportunity for athletes to improve their quality and exchange their experience,” said Việt Nam Sports Administration Deputy Director Lê Thị Hoàng Yến.

The tournament is part of cooperation between the South Korean Culture Centre and the Việt Nam Taekwondo Federation.

It aims to strengthen the relationship between two countries, especially in the field of culture and sport.

Taekwondo is one of Việt Nam’s strongest sports in the Southeast Asian Games and international competition.

At the coming SEA Games in Hà Nội, there will be 19 taekwondo events, comprising 14 combat classes and five performance disciplines.
