Sun Hospitality Group, IHG Hotels & Resorts sign strategic partnership agreement

Sun Hospitality Group and IHG Hotels & Resorts signed a strategic cooperation agreement on June 18 to develop new resort tourism products in Vietnam.

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) – one of the world’s leading hotel companies – and Sun Hospitality Group (SHG) – a member of Sun Group – will expand their decade-long partnership to develop four hotels in Vietnam, offering 2,709 rooms to accommodate increasing demand from domestic and international visitors.

The expansion of Ba Na Hills – Vietnam’s highland entertainment complex – will feature three IHG brands: Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Resort, and voco. In addition, the Holiday Inn Resort brand will make its debut in Quang Ninh Province, at Yoko Park, a large-scale hot-spring resort.

The firms have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore further projects, beginning with the development of Vignette Collection onsen-wellness resorts and products in Vietnam, in collaboration with world-renowned spa and wellness consultant Raison d’Etre (RdE).

The announcement coincides with two major milestones: the 15th anniversary of Sun Group and InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort’s 10-year anniversary of receiving guests, which began in June 2012.

As part of the agreement, IHG and SHG also plan to collaborate in Vietnam on quality assurance, joint development of new products and service lines, as well as corporate social responsibility efforts.

“It is wonderful to be celebrating more than a decade of working with Sun Hospitality Group – we have accomplished so much in that time.”

The announcement is a testament to the fantastic relationship we have built since first setting out our shared vision for InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort,” said Serena Lim, vice president, Development, Southeast Asia and Korea, IHG.

According to Lim, the new milestone portfolio arrangement, which includes four hotels totaling 2,709 rooms, raises the total number of rooms IHG manages for SHG by a factor of 10.

“I’m certain that the brand’s onsen-wellness concept and experience will establish a new standard for hospitality in the country, and we cannot wait to introduce it to our visitors.”

Nguyen Vu Quynh Anh, CEO, Sun Hospitality Group, stated that both firms are committed to pushing the boundaries of Vietnam’s tourism and hospitality by generating world-class destination concepts and experiences.

SHG and IHG are working together to develop stunning destinations for both domestic and international guests, as well as jobs and economic development possibilities for people and communities in Vietnam.

“Together, we will promote the beauty and potential of Vietnam globally for many years to come with our three new IHG-managed hotels in Ba Na Hills, Holiday Inn Resort Yoko Park, and a range of Vignette Collection all-villa onsen-wellness resorts, starting with two in Quang Hanh,” Anh noted.

The first two projects in the cooperation are the 178-villa Sun Onsen Village, Vignette Collection, and the 194-villa Quang Hanh Onsen Village, Vignette Collection, both of which are located near the popular Yoko Onsen.

Each project will have its own theme and focus and feature individual experiences and products tailor-made by Raison d’Etre (RdE), the project’s spa and wellness consultant and partner.

According to the Sun Hospitality Group official, these holistic wellness destinations are in line with the expanding wellness tourism trend.

IHG continues to see Vietnam as a significant growth market, with 15 open hotels in the nation and plans to treble its estate by 2027 with a pipeline of 20 projects, adding over 6,000 additional rooms.

IHG will debut its premium brand voco hotels by opening voco Ma Belle Danang next year, after Regent Hotels & Resorts’ recent brand debut with Regent Phu Quoc.

It is expanding across all market sectors, attracting domestic and foreign visitors to a variety of new secondary and tertiary destinations, including Ha Long Bay, Sa Pa, Ba Na Hills, Yoko Park, Phu Quoc, and Vinh Yen.

IHG Hotels & Resorts, a brand of InterContinental Hotels Group PLC, is a global hospitality company with 17 hotel brands. IHG has more than 6,000 open hotels in 100 countries, with another 1,800 in the pipeline.

Sun Hospitality Group is a member of Sun Group, which is a leading developer in the fields of real estate tourism, resort development, and urban infrastructure investment in Vietnam. The group owns a portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts across three regions, several of which have won prestigious global awards and titles.
