According to the vendor, the stones, which are stir-fried with chili, garlic, purple perilla, and rosemary before being served for 16 yuan (around $2.23), are not supposed to be eaten, reported South China Morning Post.

Instead, buyers can simply suck on them and enjoy the taste, and then bring them home to cook up again with ingredients of their choice later on, to which one netizen commented: “Sounds like a perfect dish for dieting.”

The dish reportedly embraces a centuries-old history, instead of being a newly-emerging culinary creation.

Its name “suo diu” can be translated into English as “suck and throw away.” Many people across the country are enjoying the dish, which is said to taste like fish and pair well with wine.
