Steel coil mishap freezes traffic on HCMC highway

Two steel coils weighing 20 tons snapped off their chains and fell onto National Highway 1 in HCMC’s Binh Chanh District, paralyzing traffic for two hours on Saturday.

At around 10 a.m., a container truck carrying the steel coils abruptly braked near a bridge in Binh Chanh.

The sudden action caused the chains connecting the steel coils to break, sending them down the road.

The coils did not hit anyone on the street, but created cracks on the road and blocked it, causing traffic to be jammed for two hours.

Traffic police later came to the scene, and the coils were taken away at around noon.

Back in March, a steel coil weighing over 10 tons fell onto a road in Binh Chanh District, severely injuring a lottery ticket vendor.
