HA NOI — U21 Viet Nam beat Singapore, 3-0, in the opening match of the International U21 Football Tournament, Thanh Nien newspaper reported last Sunday.
Manh Hung, Quach Tan and Van Dai scored goals in the 51st, 63rd and 67th minute of the match.
With the win, Viet Nam temporarily took the lead in Group A and qualified for the quarter-final round. In the other game, Malaysia beat Sydney, 2-1.
Six teams are taking part in the event in Can Tho City which ends on October 28. The winning team will receive US$12,000 while the second best team will get $7,000 and the third, $5,000.
Last year, Viet Nam won the trophy after beating Australia, 4-1, in a penalty shootout.
