Asian champion Võ Thị Kim Phụng will participate in the London Chess Classic, which began yesterday at the DeepMind Google headquarters.
The tournament, which has attracted 10 leading men’s Grandmasters, such as world No.1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway, joint-No 2 Hikaru Nakamura of the United States and joint-No. 2 Levon Aronian from Armenia, will then continue at the Olympia Conference Centre until December 11.
Vietnamese Women’s Grandmaster (WGM) Phụng will compete in the FIDE Open category from Saturday.
The winner of this category will receive 5,000 pounds (US$6,800).
Phụng had a successful season this year, securing a berth at the world championship in 2019. She triumphed at the Asian tournament in May and grabbed her WGM title.
Last week, she captured two gold medals at the National Best Chess Masters Tournament in Bắc Giang Province.
