Southeast Asia’s tallest waterfall in central Vietnam hosts first expedition tour

Bach Ma National Park in central Vietnam has launched a tour allowing tourists to climb Southeast Asia’s highest waterfall, Do Quyen, standing at 400 meters.

Nguyen Vu Linh, Director of Bach Ma National Park, about 40 km from Hue, said that the canyoning adventure to conquer the waterfall is part of a tour created to explore the park, which commenced on Jan. 2.

In partnership with a travel company, the three-day, two-night expedition is priced at VND15 million ($615) per person. The first tour took place with the involvement of four tourists.

Following the plan, when in Bach Ma National Park, tourists strolled along Hoang Yen Stream to visit Ngu Ho Waterfall. There, they could take a swim, enjoy lunch, and try out canyoning. After camping at Ngu Ho for the first night, the group walked to the top of Do Quyen Waterfall the next morning and were instructed to climb to conquer the 400-meters waterfall.

The tourists also had lunch on a cliff in the middle of the waterfall, then camped at the bottom of Do Quyen, spending the second night at the waterfall.

On the third day, visitors enjoyed a tea break, where they could sunbathe or take a swim at the bottom of the waterfall. After breakfast, they climbed 689 steps back to the top of Do Quyen Waterfall and were picked up by car to go to Hai Vong Dai Peak for a panoramic view of Bach Ma National Park. After having lunch at Hai Vong Dai Peak, the tour concluded with the group being taken to the foot of Bach Ma Mountain.

Bach Ma National Park spans nearly 37,500 hectares and is home to a diverse ecosystem with over 1,700 animal species and 2,400 plant species (accounting for nearly 17% of the total number of plant species in the country).

The entrance fee to visit Bach Ma is VND60,000 ($2.40).
