The start of summer also marks the beginning of the harvest season for plums in Mộc Châu District in the northern province of Sơn La.
With nearly 1,000 hectares, Mộc Châu is considered the largest plum cultivation area in the country. The regional specialty fruit is famous for its sweet delicious taste and has been identified as one of province’s key products.
In recent years, plum orchards have attracted many tourists to the Mộc Châu District. While wandering in the orchards, they could enjoy the fresh natural atmosphere and pick or taste juicy fruits. Visitors could also buy products made from plums including jam, wine, and syrup as souvenirs for their families and friends.
Nguyễn Đình Thuận is one of the first farmers invested in cultivating plums. His family grows plums on five hectares of land, following the organic process, of which 2.5 hectares are being harvested. If the weather is favourable, each harvest season could yield up to 100 tonnes.
“The fruit has helped local farmers to earn more income, improve our lives and alleviate our concern of devaluation of Vietnamese agricultural products,” he said. — VnExpress News
