A video capturing a nightscape lit up with neon-colored squares a passenger spotted on a night flight from HCMC to Melbourne has gone viral on TikTok with over 14 million views.
Brad Stewart spotted the luminescent sight from his plane window last week and posted the clip on the video-sharing platform, asking “Can somebody please tell me what these are?”
His video quickly captured attention from TikTok users, with many saying they are rows of dragon fruit farms illuminated at night.

A user named Jay wrote: “Dragon fruit farms. Artificial light to keep the plant growing longer.”
Another user also commented: “Dragon fruit farms with artificial light make year-round production possible.”
Dragon fruit is mainly grown in Vietnam’s south-central province of Binh Thuan and in southern provinces of Long An and Tien Giang.

For years now, dragon fruit farms are always lit up at night with LED lights as a way to stimulate fruit production during the off-season.
According to lighting manufacturer Atop Lighting, one way to extend the growing season and increase the yield of dragon fruits is to use LED grow lights during the evening.
“By using LED grow lights, farmers can make the daylight longer and trick the plants into thinking that it is still summer,” it said on its website.
