Seventy six damaged sidewalks and alleys in Ho Chi Minh City’s downtown District 1 will be fixed and repaved at a cost of VND220 billion (US$9 million).

Pham Quach Truong Giang, head of the District 1 Construction Management Board, said Monday that 12 sidewalks and 64 alleys along Nguyen Thi Nghia, Nguyen Van Cu, Pham Ngoc Thach, Nguyen Van Chiem, and Nguyen Trai Streets and in several wards around the district would get granite tiles and reinforced with new concrete layers in 2024 and 2025.
Drainage pipes under them will also be replaced.
Officials have also started to mark sidewalks to prepare for renting them out starting early next year.
The district has designated 155 streets where part of the sidewalk will be rented out to parking and vending businesses.
