After a HCMC metro train was sprayed with graffiti for a second time recently, authorities have decided to have more security cameras, lights and guards at the depot.
The vandalism last Sunday at the Long Binh Depot in HCMC’s Thu Duc City, where 17 trains to be deployed on line No.1 are parked, was discovered by a worker.
Last June two trains at the depot had been sprayed with graffiti.
Hoang Mai Tung, director of the HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways’ Project Management Board 1, which manages the metro, told correspondents on Thursday that more security cameras and lights would be installed at the depot to prevent vandalism.
More guards would be deployed, and they would patrol the depot every 30 minutes instead of the earlier one hour, he said.
As of Friday morning the police were still looking for the graffiti artist.
Tung said the vandalized train is parked next to a residential area, and it was likely that the vandal had broken into the depot.
The 20-hectare depot will serve as the control center and train maintenance yard.
The metro line, after several delays, is now 95% complete and expected to become operational this year.
It will run 19.7 km from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Long Binh.
