Ride-hailing cars banned from 4 floors at HCMC airport

The TCP JSC, which handles parking at the airport, announced Thursday that the ride-hailing cars will have to park at lower floors.

The ban on parking at higher floors followed a request by Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan to better handle traffic congestion and confusion at the airport.

Cars operated by ride-hailing services like Grab and Be would only be allowed to receive customers at the D1 lane on the first floor. Be, in particular, can only receive customers at a location about 100 m away from the airport’s international terminal, the company said.

It said ride-hailing cars operating on lower floors would make it easier to manage them, prevent spontaneous price hikes and other issues. Also, customers would not have to climb to higher floors to get a ride.

Since late 2020, the four lanes in front of the Tan Son Nhat Airport’s domestic terminal have been adjusted so that certain lanes only allow entry to certain vehicles with designated purposes. This has forced ride-hailing cars to get to the third, fourth and fifth floors of the TCP parking station to receive guests.

Following this year’s Lunar New Year holiday, a sudden surge in the influx of domestic passengers prompted the airport to open the D1 lane on lower floors for ride-hailing cars to enter.
