Recovering travel demand prompts extra passenger rail services

Railway operators will increase train services to popular tourist hotspots Nha Trang, Quy Nhon and Da Nang in central Vietnam to meet peak summer travel demand.

The Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, railroad operator in the north, said it would run three additional trains to carry tourists from Hanoi to Dong Hoi, home to UNESCO heritage site Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and the world’s largest cave Son Doong, from May 19.

Currently, there are four pairs of Thong Nhat passenger trains picking up and dropping off passengers in Dong Hoi.

Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company also announced it would increase more trains from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang on May 10, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang beach towns from May 19.

From May 20, there would be an additional pair of trains from HCMC to Phan Thiet, home to Mui Ne resort town.

During the recent Reunification Day holiday, train tickets to popular tourist hotspots were nearly sold out as travel demand recovered.

Many localities in north and central Vietnam witnessed a tourism boom during the four-day holiday break that earned them millions of dollars in tourism revenues.
