Rainfall expected all over north

High-altitude winds and a cold front are set to bring rains to northern Vietnam starting Tuesday.

The region has been dry for the past week with temperatures at 22-25 degrees Celsius during the day and 10-12 degrees at night.

On Tuesday northwestern and northeastern regions will get rains due to the effects of high-altitude winds, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

A day later a cold front will cause rains all over the north.

But the rainfall is only expected to last a day or two though, as New Year approaches, the region will remain cloudy and day temperatures will plummet to 13-15 degrees.

U.S. weather forecast service AccuWeather said Hanoi would see temperatures range between 14 and 21 degrees on Monday and Tuesday before dropping to 10-16 degrees on Wednesday.

High-altitude locations like Sa Pa town would see temperatures of 6-11 degrees early in the week before they drop to 5-7 degrees, it said.

The central region will be affected by the cold front starting Wednesday, with provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh getting rain. The rainfall will intensify starting Thursday.

The southern and Central Highlands regions have been experiencing the impacts of cold air for the past few days, with the temperature in HCMC dropping below 20 degrees on Saturday morning last week.

This week the Central Highlands will experience temperatures of 13-16 degrees at night and in the morning, and 23-27 degrees in the day.

The south will have daytime temperatures of 29-32 degrees.
