Quang Ngai hosts marathon for the first time

Information about the Quang Ngai Marathon – BSR Cup was released on April 28 by the Quang Ngai People’s Committee.

Initiated by Binh Son Refining and Petrochemicals, which operates the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, the race is expected to promote tourism and increase the popularity of marathon running in the province.

Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the marathon movement has spread widely in the province in recent years.

He added that the BSR Cup will be the largest marathon ever held in Quang Ngai.

The race offers three distances – 5, 10, and 21km – with the starting and ending points both at Pham Van Dong Square.

The route covers Hoang Sa Street on the north bank of the Tra Khuc River.

Security officers from the Quang Ngai Provincial Police will be deployed to ensure road safety. The Quang Ngai Province Department of Health will appoint medical staff to care for athletes’ health.

Some 300 volunteers will support runners and provide water during the race.

The Quang Ngai Marathon – BSR 2023 Cup has two competition categories: individual and organization.

The participants competing in the organization category must come from districts, towns, or cities in Quang Ngai.

Quang Ngai is home to great potential for tourism, thanks to its long coastline and majestic mountains.

The province is well-known for Ly Son island, which is surrounded by numerous stunning seas including Sa Huynh, My Khe, Ganh Yen, Ba Lang An, Chau Tan… Quang Ngai is also home to mountains, hills, grasslands, waterfalls, and streams.

In the 2016-2019 period, Quang Ngai attracted a total of more than 3 million visitors at an average annual growth rate of 15%.

In 2020, Quang Ngai welcomed 453,000 visitors.
