Province to test officials for Covid after holiday

Government officials and state employees in Soc Trang must be tested for Covid-19 upon returning from upcoming holiday travels outside the Mekong Delta province.

Tran Van Lau, chairman of the Soc Trang People’s Committee, announced on Wednesday that all officials, government employees and state workers must follow Covid-19 prevention measures during the upcoming Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday.

People returning to Soc Trang from other localities after the holiday must be tested for Covid-19 before returning to work to ensure safety, he said.

“This will be done voluntarily and out of a sense of duty,” said Lau, adding that the province has officially detected five Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the year.

Lau has also requested the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to instruct tourism sites and accommodation facilities to abide by regulations and ensure customer safety.

Soc Trang Province spans over 3,300 km2 and is home to over 1.2 million people. It recorded its first Covid-19 case in July 2021. It then adopted a series of coronavirus prevention measures before committing to the “new normal” adaptation strategy in September 2021.

Several localities have begun to ask that citizens follow Covid-19 prevention measures as fears of a coronavirus return mount before the holiday.

Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta has announced that it would provide quick Covid-19 tests to 68,000 people on a voluntary basis for the holiday. Hanoi, Dong Nai, Vinh Long and Quang Ninh have asked people to wear masks in crowded places.
