PM suggests Australia imports more Vietnamese farm produce

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested Monday that Australia opens its doors wider to Vietnamese agricultural and fisheries products.

Receiving Australian Senator Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, in Vietnam to attend the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum 2022, Chinh also requested that Australia stops anti-dumping investigations into some Vietnamese products.

Ayres confirmed that Australia always attached importance to the strategic partnership with Vietnam and wished to further boost bilateral ties.

He also agreed that both countries need to strengthen cooperation in responding to regional and world challenges, including climate change and energy security.

Two-way trade between the two countries stood at $12.4 billion in 2021, up nearly 50% against 2020; and reached $9.6 billion in the first seven months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 40%.
