Photo exhibit features black-white art

HCM CITY — An exhibition of black and white photographs on Vietnamese people and culture especially the daily life of ethnic minority communities, is now open.

The event, organised by the HCM City’s Photography Association, is titled Cảm Xúc (Feeling). It features 59 photos from latest collections by members of the Gia Định Photography Club. 

Many of the displayed photographs are of women and children in remote areas. 

They include works by prize-winning photographers like Thái Phiên, Hoàng Thạch Vân and Nguyễn Á.  

Thái Phiên is famous for having worked in the field of nude photography for decades. His works capture the original beauty of women.

“The art of black and white pictures presented by the Gia Định Photography Club will surprise viewers,” said Nguyễn Thục Quyên, a final-year student of the HCM City University of Architecture, who attended the exhibition’s opening ceremony. 

“Their way of using different tones of gray, ranging from white to dark, will not fail to leave a strong impression on viewers, including professional photographers and painters.  

“Through every single work at Cảm Xúc, viewers can discover more about Việt Nam, its history, culture and people,” Quyên said.
