The Central Inspection Committee has proposed that the Politburo disciplines former HCMC chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong for violating Party regulations.
In a statement Wednesday it also proposed the HCMC Communist Party Designated Representative Committee for the 2016-2021 term be disciplined for violating the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations and for its loose leadership.
The inspectors proposed that warnings be issued to the Party Committee Standing Boards of the municipal construction department as well as the Office of the HCMC People’s Committee.
They further recommended that HCMC deputy chairman Vo Van Hoan be reprimanded.
The inspection committee said the violations have led to further wrongdoings by the HCMC People’s Committee, other municipal bodies and individuals on financial management and state property.
As a result, many Party organizations and members have had to be disciplined, and some officials and party members, including key leaders of the HCMC People’s Committee, have faced criminal charges.
The violations have caused serious consequences that are difficult to repair, causing a great loss of state property and frustration in the society, which has adversely affected the government’s reputation, the inspection committee said.
The inspectors also requested that the HCMC Party Standing Committee reviews and discipline any municipal body or individual involved in the violations.
Phong, 59, is native of the southern province of Ben Tre.
He holds a doctorate in economics and was a member of the Party Central Committee for many terms.
He was the HCMC Chairman from 2018 to August 2021, when he was promoted as Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission.
