Painter Hường’s ‘Journey to Live and Love…’ opens in Hà Nội

Hà Nội — Despite the severe cold in the capital, a hundred art lovers have flocked to the centre of Hà Nội to enjoy the new painting exhibition by painter Thúy Hường, entitled ‘Journey to Live & Love…’, which will continue until the last day of 2023 at 16 Ngô Quyền Street.

The exhibition aims to present viewers with beautiful landscapes and an insight into how locals live and love. It also seeks to welcome the approaching New Year 2024, said Hường.

Painter Trường Linh, speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, commented that Hường’s paintings are rich in emotion and possess a surreal sense of humour, as well as a diversity of topics, creating lively and beautiful works that have garnered great interest and impressions from art lovers.

Ngô Thu Hằng, an art enthusiast from Hà Nội’s Hai Bà Trưng District, expressed her admiration for all of Hường’s paintings. “They bring new looks and a bright future to people,” she said.

She noted her favourites among the 18 new paintings on display at the art house: the traditional lacquer painting ‘White Lotuses (Giai Nhân – Quân Tử)’ measuring 100cm by 80cm; ‘Forever Green (Mãi Xanh Tươi)’ measuring 150cm by 90cm; ‘Vietnamese Bamboos (Tre Việt)’ measuring 50cm by 70cm; ‘Red River Cheers (Sông Hồng Reo)’ measuring 210cm by 130cm; and ‘Revival (Hồi Sinh)’ measuring 140cm by 90cm.

Painter Hường stated that her significant responsibility to the local community involves engaging in charity work to aid disadvantaged individuals. She has allocated a substantial amount of the proceeds from her sold paintings towards assisting hemodialysis patients, mothers of martyrs, and pupils experiencing difficulties.

This year, she donated 1.3 tonnes of sticky rice to the hemodialysis patients residing in what is locally known as xóm chạy thận (hamlet of hemodialysis) near Bạch Mai Hospital.

“Every year, painter Hường donates things to us at the hamlet. We all are very thankful to her for her kindness and love towards disadvantaged patients like us,” said Mai Anh Tuấn, who is referred to as the head of the hamlet.

Tuấn has been undergoing hemodialysis for nearly 30 years.

Artist and teacher Nguyễn Thị Thúy Hường, born in 1977 in the midland province of Vĩnh Phúc, is a graduate of the University of Fine Arts. She previously taught at the Department of Fine Arts Pedagogy at the Hà Nội College of Arts and currently lives and works in Hà Nội.

Hường has been passionate about painting since she was a young girl and has devoted her time, enthusiasm, and passion to both education and painting. Creating paintings, for her, is a way to convey her message of love for life. Her works include depictions of the Red River, Long Biên Bridge, lotus ponds, banana bushes with withered leaves, among others.

The 9-day exhibition, located at 16 Ngô Quyền Street in Hoàn Kiếm District of Hà Nội, will conclude on December 31. VNS
