Only half of Vietnamese willing to spend on sustainable travel: survey

The rest said they are “too expensive” in the Sustainable Tourism Survey of 33,000 respondents in 35 countries and territories, including 5,000 from Vietnam.

Some 77% of the Vietnamese said recent information about climate change has a significant impact on their travel choices, encouraging them to make more sustainable choices.

Globally 76% said they want to travel more sustainably in the next 12 months, a 5 percentage point increase from the 2022 survey.

Vietnam has 5,093 sustainable rooms recognized by Booking.com, placing it in fifth place in the Asia-Pacific after India, Australia, Indonesia, and Thailand.

They are mainly in major tourist centers like Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Nha Trang.

Many high-end resorts are built of eco-friendly materials and prioritize environmental sustainability.

Sustainable travel has raced to the top of the tourism agenda in recent years with some tourist destinations across Vietnam restricting the use of single-use plastic and plastic bags and offering eco-friendly products.
