One-third of workers to quit if work-life balance compromised: survey

More than 35% of workers in Vietnam said they would quit if their job disrupts their work-life balance, according to a recent survey.

Work-life balance, along with corporate culture, opportunities for career advancement, and the qualities of the direct supervisor are the four factors that will most determine whether workers will quit or remain with their current company, the Salary and the Labor Market 2024 report by recruitment company Navigos Search found.

The biggest factory that determines whether someone will want to quit or stay is salary, according to 70% of respondents. The survey was undertaken by 550 businesses and 4,000 jobseekers in the third quarter this year.

“This result showed that workers are increasingly prioritizing mental health values. This gives them a motivation to give up their current job for a more suitable one,” the report said.

The polled respondents were from various sectors in Hai Phong City, Hanoi, Da Nang City, Binh Duong Province, Dong Nai Province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Navigos Search also found that that companies have continued to cut jobs (68.7% of respondents) or have stopped recruiting new employees (52.6%) in the third quarter as the global economy experienced plunging demand.

44% of workers said their salary remained unchanged from a year before, while 11.5% reported a decline and the rest, 44.4%, said they received a raise.

Workers plan to improve their skills next year to be safe from an expected layoff wave. Some 55% of workers said they would develop their language and analytical skills to this end.

Navigos Search advised enterprises to study the psychological needs of workers and develop plans to attract, recruit, and retain talent effectively.

Enterprises also need to build a workplace culture that aligns with the core values they are aiming for, it added.
