Northern Vietnam to receive northeast monsoon this week

A northeast monsoon will hit northern Vietnam beginning Tuesday night, bringing the temperature down to 14-17 degrees in the region.

After almost two weeks of drizzling rain, fog and humidity, many localities in the north are now enjoying sunny weather with the average temperature recorded at 30 Celsius degrees on Sunday.

The sunny weather is continuing on Monday under the impacts of a low pressure zone circulation from the west.

However, the northeast monsoon will arrive Tuesday night, hitting the northern region with torrential rains and causing the temperatures to drop, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The center said the average temperature at night in Hanoi and nearby localities will remain at 14-17 degrees. In the mountainous region, it will hover around 10-13 degrees and even below 8 degrees.

According to American site Accuweather, the temperature in Hanoi will be 16 degrees at night and 18 degrees during the day on Tuesday and the corresponding figures on Wednesday will be 14 and 17 degrees.

In Sa Pa Town, which lies 1,500 meters above sea level, the mercury drops to 7 degrees at night and 15 degrees during the day on Tuesday, and 7 and 12 degrees on Wednesday.
