Northern Vietnam to receive new cold spells this week


Two mild cold spells are forecast to arrive in the north this week, accompanied by converging high-altitude winds causing rain, bringing Hanoi’s temperatures to a minimum of 15 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the two cold air masses will move down to the north, combined with wind convergence above 5,000 meters.

The average temperature will drop by about 4-5 degrees Celsius compared to the beginning of the week.

U.S. site AccuWeather said Hanoi’s temperature on Jan. 8-9 will be around 19-25 degrees and drop to 16-19 degrees from Jan. 10.

High-altitude areas that stand over 1,500 meters above sea level such as Sa Pa should experience temperature decrease starting from Jan. 10, reaching 7-11 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.

The north-central region from Thanh Hoa to Thua-Thien Hue will be cloudy and see showers this week, with the highest temperatures reaching 26-28 degrees Celsius, while the area from Da Nang to Binh Thuan will see maximum temperatures at 29-32 degrees Celsius.

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for areas from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai from Jan. 10, influenced by the cold air.

The south and Central Highlands will continue to experience the typical weather of the dry season with less cloud and lots of sunshine.

The highest temperature could reach 33-35 degrees Celsius in the south and 29-32 degrees in the Central Highlands, home to Da Lat City.
