Hanoi and other northern Vietnam regions would experience heavy rain from Friday to Monday, with potential risks of flooding and landslides in mountainous areas, weather experts warn.
A convergence zone is getting established above mountainous regions in northern Vietnam, triggering rain of 100-200 mm in the area from Friday night to Monday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The rain will first be concentrated in mountainous and midland areas, before expanding towards the plains and the coasts.
Temperatures in Hanoi would fall to between 27-35 degrees Celsius Friday with maximum temperature falling further to 31 degrees Sunday, according to U.S. weather forecast service AccuWeather.
High-altitude locations like Lao Cai’s Sa Pa would see temperatures of 18-22 degrees Celsius, it predicted.
Hot sunny days are expected to continue in certain central Vietnam regions this weekend, with temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius and 55-70 percent humidity.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has advised people to stay home and away from wet locations and electrical appliances amid a thunderstorm to avoid risks of electrocution and getting struck by lightning.
Around 44 people have been killed in 36 lightning strike incidents across the country this year, the center said.
