HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security said on December 6 that it has coordinated with relevant agencies to receive 780 Vietnamese citizens returning home from Myanmar amid complicated developments of the security situation in this country.

Accordingly, following directions of Deputy Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. Lương Tam Quang, the department has actively coordinated with the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar to verify and issue passports for citizen protection, and organise flights to bring them home.

It has worked with relevant units to verify the identities of and support citizens as quickly as possible, and issued passports for 1,068 people. As of December 6, a total of 780 people had been supported to return home on six charter flights.

The department added that it and relevant agencies will organise more charter flights this week to bring home the remaining Vietnamese citizens still stranded in Myanmar.

Most of them are young people, in addition to pregnant women and a few newborns. Many of them were lured into scam casino operations in the north of Myanmar, abandoned by their employers and stranded in the country in the wake of armed conflicts between the Myanmar military and ethnic minority groups in this region.

Vietnamese who remain stranded or need help can phone the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar via its citizen protection hotline +959660888998; or the MoFA’s Consular Department via the citizen protection switchboard +84 981 84 84 84, +84 965 41 11 18, or email [email protected].

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again warns Vietnamese citizens to be cautious against offers to work abroad for “easy but high-paying” jobs, with no requirements for degrees or qualifications, no signed contracts, with no representing sending labour organisations. Citizens need to consider carefully what the job entails, the company, expected work location, relatives of the recommender, insurance policy, and benefits before deciding to go abroad. — VNS
