My son blames me when his wife skips breakfast

My son scolded me for not reminding my daughter-in-law to eat breakfast, expressing concern that if she goes hungry, it could negatively affect the baby she’s expecting.

My son got married just a few months ago. His wife is pregnant and stays at home, handling the cooking and chores while my husband and I are busy with farm work. Knowing my daughter-in-law is still adjusting and might feel shy, I’ve tried to make her as comfortable as possible and given her guidance.

My son works over 10 km away, leaving in the morning and usually returning around 8-9 p.m. His job is not yet stable.

Typically, I go to the market and prepare meals for everyone at home. On some days, I buy breakfast from outside, while on other days, each person at home prepares their own meal whenever they wake up, making rice or instant noodles as they prefer, with ingredients available at home such as meat and eggs in the fridge and vegetables from the garden.

The other day, I was at the market delivering goods when my son called. He scolded me for not reminding his wife to have breakfast, worried she might go hungry, which could harm their baby. Annoyed, I responded briefly, but my son didn’t say much as he was busy with work and ended the call.

That day, I hadn’t bought breakfast, but we had noodles, meat, eggs, and vegetables at home, so I assumed my daughter-in-law would get up and cook something for herself. I was busy too, quickly eating a bowl of rice with peanuts and salt before rushing off to deliver goods on time, as the customers were pressing me. I didn’t realize that my daughter-in-law had skipped breakfast that day until my son saw it on the surveillance camera installed at home and called to scold me.

I felt quite annoyed and also saddened. My children are grown and should be able to take care of themselves. However, they sometimes fail to understand their parents’ feelings. I’m a bit worried about our future living together, as I’m sure there will be more conflicts due to generational differences.

What should I do?
