Police in Hung Nguyen District signaled to stop Nam at a checkpoint at around 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 as he was driving along National Highway 46 a motorbike without wearing a helmet. The motorbike does not have any mirrors.
However, Nam refused to stop and instead drove straight forward to hit an officer, causing him to fall onto the street and break his leg.
The officer, Lieutenant Nguyen Xuan Canh, 37, has now been transferred to a hospital in Hanoi for treatment.
Nam admitted that he was aware of violating traffic rules and wanted to skip the checkpoint to escape penalties.
