More flights, trains for Reunification Day holiday

Domestic carriers and railway operators are increasing the frequency of flights and trains to popular destinations to meet growing travel demand for the upcoming national Reunification Day holiday.

Many flight and train tickets to popular tourist destinations in Vietnam have either been sold out or seen their prices double a month before the four-day national holiday from April 30 to May 3.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines said the national flag carrier is preparing nearly 450,000 flight seats from April 28 to May 2, up 10 percent against the same period in 2019.

The carrier will increase flight frequency on domestic routes connecting Hanoi and HCMC with popular tourist destinations like Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Con Dao Islands.

From April 15, Vietnam Airlines will resume its regular route between Hanoi, HCMC and India’s New Delhi; and from Singapore to Da Nang, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc.

For the upcoming holidays, Bamboo Airways plans to increase the maximum frequency of flights on key routes such as Hanoi – Da Nang, Hanoi – Quy Nhon, Hanoi – Cam Ranh and Hanoi – Phu Quoc.

It will also resume its HCMC-Bangkok route on April 28, HCMC-Singapore route on April 29 and Hanoi-Singapore route on May 4.

Currently, air tickets from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to famous tourist destinations range from VND5-7 million ($219-306) for round trip depending on flight time and ticket type, twice the fare on normal days.

On Vietnam Airlines, round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Phu Quoc departing April 30 and returning May 3 cost nearly VND8 million.

Vietjet Air’s air tickets on the Hanoi – Nha Trang route from April 29 to May 3 is VND 5-6 million for a round trip and nearly VND3 million for the HCMC – Nha Trang route.

Flights from Hanoi to Con Dao operated by Bamboo Airways on April 29-30 are either full or only business seats are available. The economy round-trip fare on this route is VND8.4 million.

The Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) will add 30 trains between April 28 and May 4, connecting Hanoi with tourist destinations like Lao Cai, Dong Hoi, Hue, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

In the south, it will add 17 trains connecting HCMC with Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon and Da Nang.
