More arrested for terrorism in Dak Lak attacks


Three more people were arrested in the Central Highlands’ Dak Lak Province on Friday for their involvement in the deadly attacks on two People’s Committee offices last month.

Y Khing Lieng, 31, Nay Duong, 55, and Y Hoal Eban, 53, were arrested as they were hiding in the hills of Ea Ktur Commune. They are among six specially wanted suspects accused of alleged involvement in the attacks on the People’s Committee offices and police stations in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes on June 11. The other three wanted were arrested last Saturday.

The raids on the local government-headquarter buildings resulted in nine deaths among officials, police and civilians.

Nguyen Van Bon, deputy director of the Dak Lak police, said that besides arresting the three suspects, who are being investigated for terrorism, the police also seized a gun and bullets.

Armed groups attacked two People’s Committee offices that also house police offices in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes early on June 11, resulting in nine deaths. The Ministry of Public Security called the attacks “reckless, barbaric and inhumane.”

Among the arrested was a member of a U.S.-based organization who had received instructions to infiltrate Vietnam and perform the attacks, according to official sources.

Over 90 people have been arrested so far to be investigated on multiple charges, including terrorism. The political situation in Dak Lak and the Central Highlands has stabilized and people’s lives have returned to normal, the public security ministry has announced.
