Man arrested for growing opium garden


Police in the northern province of Bac Giang have detained a local man after finding 2,154 opium poppies in his house’s garden.

Ngo Quang Tang, 61, who lives in Son Dong District, admitted to the police that he started growing those plants last November for his own use, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Police uprooted all the poppies and seized them following an inspection at his house on Saturday.

Opium is on the list of forbidden narcotics in Vietnam.
