The Malaysian government has decided to triple the duration of the visa-free stay for Hong Kong passport holders to 90 days as it seeks to boost tourism.
The decision took effect Friday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on his Facebook page.
It is a reciprocal move after Hong Kong recently offered the same privilege to Malaysians.
Earlier this month the Henley Passport Index ranked the Hong Kong passport the 17th most powerful in the world with visa-free entry to 170 destinations.
The Malaysian passport is the 11th most powerful with visas not required in 180 destinations.
