Bad weather and rough seas have cut off Ly Son Island off the central coast for four days, sending prices skyrocketing there and preventing people from going to the mainland for medical requirements.
A port official in Quang Ngai Province said Thursday that no high-speed boats or cargo vessels have been operating between the mainland and Ly Son Island since Monday.
It means food has become scarce on the island, causing their prices to jump by around 20%. The situation has been a big problem for people who need to visit a hospital on the mainland.
The unfavorable weather is expected to continue until Monday next week, according to the Quang Ngai Station for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Ly Son Island, spanning over 10 sq.km and situated 20 km from the mainland, has a population of around 20,000 and has become a popular tourist destination in recent years.
Normally high-speed boats make regular trips to the mainland.
