A 5-year-old girl was rescued Monday after falling into a hole at a construction site in southern Dong Nai Province.
The girl, who was playing with friends in Nhon Trach District on Monday, lost her footing and fell into a deep hole, which was intended to hold concrete piles.
She screamed for help, and construction workers and security guards came to her rescue. However, the hole was only 30 cm wide so it was difficult for the workers to gain access to where she had fallen.
Firefighting and rescue forces of the Dong Nai provincial police department deployed 14 officers to the site. As the hole was too small, it was not possible to send a rope or people down to rescue the girl. Also, expanding the hole would take a long time and the rescuers feared it would risk burying the child.
The workers were eventually able to expand the hole enough so that they could send rope down to the girl. Rescuers calmed her down and then told her to wrap the rope around herself so that she could be pulled to safety. The rescue operation took just about 20 minutes.
The girl was taken to a local hospital for first-aid and was released later that day.
