Japanese experts inspect deadly Da Lat landslide site

Da Lat authorities have invited Japanese experts to survey a landslide area that resulted in two deaths late last month, in order to help prevent future incidents.

Three Japanese engineers from the Kawasaki Geological Company – Takami Kanno, Numakunai Makoto and Kumagai Yuga – along with other local agencies performed surveys in multiple neighborhoods on Tuesday.

The streets of Hoang Hoa Tham, Yen The, Khe Sanh and Dang Thai Than were all inspected in the Central Highlands Province of Lam Dong’s city, a former French hill station and resort town.

Following the surveys, the team of experts will advise Da Lat authorities and the Lam Dong People’s Committee on solutions to prevent future erosion and landslides.

Back in 2017, the Kawasaki company had previously helped Da Lat with its expertise after erosion that damaged dozens of houses on Nguyen Van Troi Street.

Da Lat has been experiencing frequent landslides in recent years, with the latest incident being the collapse of a street embankment on June 29 that resulted in two deaths, five injured and dozens of damaged homes.

The Da Lat People’s Committee will also receive feedback from the Japanese scientists in order to help adjust its construction policies and prevent such problems in the future.
