Japanese club slaps $2M price tag on Thai football star

Injuries plagued Songkrasin throughout Kawasaki’s 22 games since the start of the J1 League season. He only played in five and only scored one goal.

However, Thai clubs Buriram United, Port FC, Bangkok United and BG Pathum United had all expressed interest in bringing Songkrasin home.

Songkrasin’s contract with Kawasaki lasts through January 31, 2025. According to newspaper Thairath, the J1 League club thus want to get $2 million from selling Songkrasin.

Since the price was announced, only BG Pathum followed through, and its president Pavin Bhirombhaki has sent an offer to Kawasaki.

“I’m still a Kawasaki Frontale player,” Songkrasin said on Monday after he returned to Thailand to train with the national team. “I can’t go into further details.”

Kawasaki bought Songkrasin in early 2022 for $3.8 million, a transfer record among Japanese clubs at that time.

Before joining Kawasaki, Songkrasin played for Japanese club Consadole Sapporo and became a key player there with 115 appearances and 14 goals.

Known for his dribbling and vision, Songkrasin is considered the best attacking midfielder in the history of Thai football. He has won two SEA Games gold medals and three AFF Cup titles with Thailand.

According to football site Transfermakt, Songkrasin’s value is currently $1.3 million.
