Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee releases new MV 10 years after drug arrest

On Wednesday, Jaycee released the music video for “In Search for Darkness,” a song he composed, wrote, and directed.

The MV depicts a journey through disappointment, regret, and disorientation, eventually leading to acceptance and overcoming a dark period. It includes real-life moments from Jaycee’s life, such as images of his parents, Jackie and former actress Lin Feng Jiao, childhood photos, and footage from his 2015 public apology for drug use.

The video also features a scene where Jaycee looks at his wrist, revealing the date 14/8/2014, the day he was arrested for drug use.

Jaycee was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 2,000 yuan (nearly $280) in January 2015. He had initially been detained in August 2014 and served his full sentence.

Jaycee admitted to “sheltering others to use drugs,” a charge that could have resulted in up to three years in prison. However, he received a lighter sentence from the Dongcheng District People’s Court due to his cooperation with the police, including providing information about his own drug use. More than 100 grams of marijuana were found at his home, according to South China Morning Post.

According to Sina, during Jaycee’s childhood, his father, Jackie, would spend two weeks each year with him and his mother. These visits felt like a special occasion, though the celebration was confined to their home, and Jackie did not go out with his son.

Jackie, who married Lin just before their son’s birth in 1982, did not publicly acknowledge their marriage until 1998, and even then, only indirectly, when their names appeared together in the obituary of his godfather, producer Leonard Ho.

A turning point in Lin and Jaycee’s lives came in 1999, when Jackie fathered a child with former beauty queen Elaine Ng, and the affair became public. Despite the scandal, Jaycee called his father to assure him that he and his mother would continue to support him.

Although Jaycee has pursued a career as an actor, singer, and songwriter for over a decade, he has not achieved significant success, according to the Straits Times.

However, his relationship with his father has often been a topic of media attention. Jackie is known for being strict with his son.

In 2005, he reportedly stated that he would keep an eye on Jaycee even after his death by having his ashes placed in an urn under Jaycee’s bed, according to Sina. Jackie expressed his desire for Jaycee to avoid “bad things,” including drug use.
