An urban area will be built on an islet in the Dong Nai River, the natural border between Dong Nai Province and HCMC, as well as Binh Duong Province.
The Hiep Hoa Urban Area, approved Tuesday by the Dong Nai People’s Committee, will cover an area of 300 hectares (741 acres) on Pho Islet.
Set to be home to 31,600 people, the urban area will be connected with Bien Hoa Town, Dong Nai’s capital, by bridges, the plan said.
The project is expected to cost VND72.229 trillion ($3 billion) and will take 12 years to complete.
Pho Islet spreads 700 hectares and lies in the river area next to Binh Duong Province.
