Indonesians unhappy with SEA Games football training pitch in Vietnam

Indonesian coach Shin Tae-yong and his players were not happy with pitch conditions at the Bai Bang Stadium in Phu Tho Province after their first SEA Games training session.

The Indonesian team for the 31st Games had arrived in Vietnam on Tuesday.

After the training session on Wednesday Shin shared his thoughts with the accompanying Indonesian reporters.

He said: “The players are in great shape and are ready for the game with Vietnam. However, the grass on the training ground was not good at all and not suitable for modern football.”

Midfielder Saddil Ramdani said: “The pitch was not good. There was a lot of sand and many potholes.”

According to local media, the grass, stands and lighting system have been improved to meet Asian Football Confederation requirements.

Indonesia take on the hosts on Friday. It is an important game in group A since the two teams are fancied to advance.

The other teams are Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor Leste.

At the last SEA Games in 2019, Vietnam defeated Indonesia 3-0 in the final to claim the title.
