India’s third biggest motorbike manufacturer is seeking a license to sell its products in Vietnam.
“If things go well, TVS will start selling in either the third or fourth quarter,” a person working for a company that will distribute the Indian company’s vehicles, told VnExpress on condition of anonymity.
The TVS Ntorq 125, a single-cylinder scooter with a top speed of 95 kilometers per hour, has already been registered for sale in Vietnam.
The vehicle will be imported and distributed by a Ho Chi Minh City-based motorbike dealer.
Imports of vehicles for commercial distribution require many permits, and it is unclear how many TVS and its distributor have obtained so far.
TVS was established in 1978 in Tamil Nadu State, and made TVS-Suzuki two wheelers in partnership with the Japanese company until it ended in 2001.
It ranks third in India in terms of sales behind Hero and Honda with around four million two-wheelers a year.
India is the world’s largest two-wheeler market and Vietnam is fourth.
In the first quarter of this year 634,000 motorbikes were sold in Vietnam.
