Indian workers discovers $100K diamond

Raju Gond, a 40-year-old laborer from India, recently discovered a 19.22-carat diamond valued at approximately $100,000.

Gond, who typically earns $4 a day through various jobs such as working in fields or diamond mines in Madhya Pradesh, or driving a tractor, found the diamond with his younger brother Rakesh.

The brothers had rented a 64-square-meter plot of government land for $9.50 a day to dig for diamonds, where they found the precious gem on July 24, as reported by Yahoo News.

After discovering the diamond, they took it to the Panna Diamond Office for appraisal. Anupam Singh, the official diamond examiner, confirmed it as a 19.22-carat white diamond and valued it at about $95,500, according to CNN.

Singh explained that the government leases out shallow mines to families under local supervision, charging an 11.5% royalty and a minor tax on any discoveries, with the rest of the earnings going to the finder.
