I struggle with my mother-in-law’s late dinner preparation


Many times I find myself hungry and waiting to eat because my mother-in-law typically prepares dinner late, around 8-9 p.m.

I gave birth five months ago and my baby usually wants to sleep by 7-7:30 p.m. However, as I have to get up to join the family for dinner, my baby wakes up and cries.

Despite this, my mother-in-law continues with her late cooking schedule, forcing me to eat quickly and undoing my efforts to settle the baby for the night. This situation makes me envious of other daughters-in-law who have their meals earlier, around 7 or 7:30 p.m.

Eating dinner late, especially with a young child, has also started to affect my health. I am at a higher risk of obesity and face additional challenges, such as not finding the time to brush my teeth because my baby needs comforting. Consequently, I am often exhausted the next day, yet I still have to rise early to study. This cycle leaves me feeling worn out.

However, addressing this issue with my mother-in-law is challenging as she is not very receptive to different viewpoints. I am at a loss about how to handle this situation.
