HCMC vice chairman reprimanded for shortcomings

Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, has been reprimanded for violations and shortcomings in the discharge of his duties.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh signed the relevant document Monday.

Hoan, 57, has been HCMC vice chairman since May 2019, with responsibility for economic issues.

In June, the Central Inspection Committee had reprimanded Hoan and warned the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Department of Construction and the Standing Party Committee of the HCMC People’s Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

The inspection committee discovered that the HCMC People’s Committee’s Party Committee had violated the principle of democratic centralism and operating norms; and displayed irresponsibility and loose leadership.

As a result, the HCMC People’s Committee and related organizations, individuals had violated the Party and the government’s regulations in managing state assets.

The transgressions have had major repercussions that are difficult to overcome, resulted in significant property and state budget losses, caused social discontent, harmed the reputation of the Party committee and local authorities, the inspectors said.

Vietnam’s Communist Party has four modes of punishment for misconduct by official members: reprimand, warning, demotion and expulsion.
