HCMC vice chairman injured in traffic accident


A car driving Le Hoa Binh, deputy chairman of HCMC People’s Committee, blew a tire and flipped over on HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway Tuesday morning.

Binh was on his way from the city to the Mekong Delta when the accident took place at around 7:20 a.m., said Senior Colonel Dong Thai Chien, deputy head of the Road Traffic Control and Supervision Department.

Apart from the driver, Binh and his secretary were on the seven-seat car at the time it flipped over.

Both the driver and the secretary were safe after the accident but Binh is reported to be in severe condition and has been taken to Long An General Hospital in Long An Province for emergency aid.

HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway is the only expressway connecting the city with the Mekong Delta. Since January 2019 when the toll collection was stopped, more than 200 accidents have happened along the route.

A native of central Quang Ngai Province, Binh, 51, took office as the city’s deputy chairman for the 2021-2026 period last December.

In December, 2014, he was deputy director of the municipal Department of Construction before be elected a member of the city’s Party Committee for the 2015-2020 in October 2015.

In March 2016, he was chairman of District 7. He became the director of the Construction Department in April 2019 and was elected as member of the Party Committee for the 2020-2025 in October 2020.

As the city’s vice chairman, Binh is in charge of directly directing the People’s Committee, the city’s executive arm, in the field of urban planning, management and development, land, resource and environment management, as well as traffic, transportation, water supply and drainage.
