Le Hoa Binh, deputy chairman of HCMC’s People Committee, died in a car accident while on a business trip to the Mekong Delta Tuesday.
He passed away at Long An Province General Hospital in the delta, a provincial official confirmed.
HCMC chairman Phan Van Mai and his family have arrived at the hospital to bring his body home.
The SUV he was on blew a rear tire, hit a barrier and flipped over.
The accident happened at around 7:20 a.m. on HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway when he was on his way to Ben Tre Province to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge that will connect Ben Tre and Tien Giang in the Mekong Delta.
Two other people in the car, the driver and Binh’s secretary, escaped without serious injury.
