HCMC to renovate Hotel Continental Saigon

Other relics scheduled for renovation under the program include the HCMC Museum of Vietnamese History, Giac Lam Pagoda, which was built in 1744, and which is the oldest pagoda in the city, and assembly halls and temples.

Just a short walk from Saigon’s Notre Dame Cathedral, The Hotel Continental Saigon, on Dong Khoi Street, was built in 1880. For decades, it was the place to be seen for many high-ranking French colonial officials.

The hotel, which was shut down in 1980 before resuming operations in 1989, was voted “one of Asia’s best heritage gems” by CNN.

In recent years, the city has disbursed funding to renovate some of the city’s relics, such as the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City, the Phu Tho Hoa Tunnels and the Pasteur Institute.

Many of the city’s historical sites have suffered serious deterioration over the years, and now require urgent restoration.

HCMC has a total of 185 relics.
