HCMC to ban container trucks on more downtown streets

To reduce traffic jams and accidents, container trucks will be banned permanently on Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Vo Van Tan streets in Ho Chi Minh City.

The HCMC Department of Transport said that the ban will take effect from December 31.

On Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in District 1, container trucks will be prohibited on a 4-km section between Hoang Sa and Ly Thai To streets.

On Vo Van Tan Street in District 3, such vehicles are prohibited on a 2-km section from Turtle Lake to Cao Thang Street.

In early November, the city banned container trucks on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Vo Thi Sau streets in District 3.

As currently regulated, all types of trucks with a loading capacity of more than 2.5 tons are only allowed to enter inner-city areas from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day.

The city is also considering a plan to ban sleeper buses from downtown areas from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. before the Lunar New Year holiday, which will run for seven days beginning on January 20 next year.
