The Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway will be open to traffic from Saturday, reducing the travel time from HCMC to Phan Thiet beach town by three hours.
The expressway stretches 99 km going through Dong Nai and Binh Thuan provinces.
It is connected with the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, which runs from HCMC to Dong Nai.
With the new expressway put into service, it will take around two hours to travel by car from HCMC to Binh Thuan’s Phan Thiet, which is known for its beaches and sand dunes.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang reported to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday that the expressway is put into use one day sooner than previously planned to serve travel demand, which will surge this weekend as Vietnamese take five days off for Hung Kings’ commemoration, the Reunification Day and May Day holidays (April 29-May 3).
Costing VND12.5 trillion (US$535 million), Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway was inaugurated in September 2020 and was originally set for completion late last year.
However, the pandemic along with a lack of building materials caused delays.
