The PARKROYAL Saigon Hotel confirmed that it has dismissed a staff member who posted negative comments online about K-pop mega boyband Super Junior.
“We have just been that a staff member posted on his personal Facebook page a very unprofessional and negative comment regarding the K-pop group Super Junior, who we had the pleasure of serving this past Saturday,” General Manager E. J. Mac Ewan wrote on the hotel’s official Facebook on Wednesday.
“This associate has now been released from his employment immediately, as this comment is against our Standards of Service, our image and the Code of Conduct that we abide by with the highest regard for any of our guests,” said Mac Ewan.
After Super Junior performed at the Military 7 Stadium in HCMC on Saturday night, one of PARKROYAL Saigon’s staff uploaded the band’s photo during the concert, along with a caption that used Vietnamese slang that has a rude meaning to comment on the band. The post immediately caused controversy and received backlash from netizens, especially Super Junior fans.
“Once again, I’m so sorry for this negative comment that he posted on his page, on such a legend of world entertainment as Super Junior and their support team, that is enjoyed by millions,” the general manager said. “This posted action was uncalled for, and not a representation of the 200 staff who dedicate themselves every day.”
The “Super Junior World Tour – Super Show 9: Road in Ho Chi Minh” on Saturday night featured eight members of the band. They gave K-pop fans in HCMC a great show with megahits like “Mr. Simple” and “Sorry Sorry.” In addition, they also had an extra dance performance of “See Tinh”, a song by Vietnamese pop singer Hoang Thuy Linh that has been going viral in many countries.
Super Junior were formed in 2005. For their contributions to K-pop, they’ve been dubbed by the media as the “Kings of Hallyu Wave.” Super Junior are one of the best-selling K-pop artists of all time with 3.23 albums sold.
